Big Bang and Women in STEM

Today after meeting with Alex and John, we attended the first CRD (Computational Research Division) seminar series for intern students. The talk was given by Julian Borrill who is the Group Leader of the Computational Cosmology Center, a Senior Scientist in the Computational Research Division at Berkeley Lab, and a Senior Research Physicist at the Space Sciences Laboratory at UC Berkeley. He talked about "High Performance Computing For Cosmic Microwave Background Data" and showed pictures of the Big Bang.

In the afternoon at the mandatory weekly meeting for students, we listened to presentations about emergency management, safety, health resources at the lab, library resources. As the last talk, Sally Winkler & Kayla Wolf, graduate students at UC Berkeley, gave students advice on maximizing their internship experience. The two students run the Double Shelix Podcast about women in STEM and inclusive science.
